We welcome applications from individuals with a commitment to meaningful practice in all areas of the cultural sector. Admission is based on both grades from prior studies, and on evidence of related professional experience and achievements.
The program is designed for early to mid-career professionals working or involved within the cultural field in such diverse settings as museums, cultural and interpretive centres, art galleries, historic sites, parks and landscapes, community planning and urban revitalization initiatives across Canada and around the world.
You can earn both a graduate degree and the graduate certificate by undertaking concurrent degree and certificate programs. This approach enables you to use some of the credits earned in the certificate toward your degree with the permission of the academic unit, with the proviso that no more that 50% of graduate degree units may be obtained through concurrent graduate certificate or diploma coursework. Students currently enrolled in the Diploma in Cultural Resource Management or the Professional Specialization Certificate in Heritage Conservation Planning who are admissible to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and wish to make a transition to the graduate program, may transfer 1.5 units of HA 488 or HA 489 credit to the Graduate Professional Certificate with the approval of the Graduate Adviser. Where coursework is clearly equivalent to the 500 level courses (ie. HA 489K/CH570, HA 489C/CH571 and HA 489L/CH572), further transfers may be considered.
To be eligible for admission to the program, you must be admissible to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, as such hold a baccalaureate degree with a minimum B (5.0) average in the last two years (30) units leading to the degree. Applicants with four or more years of relevant professional experience whose grade point average is below B may be considered for admission as a mature student.
Admission deadline: Application submission for September 2016 entry will open on October 15th, 2015. The deadline for applications is March 15th, 2016.
Acceptance deposit: $350, paid directly to the Cultural Heritage Studies program. Due 4 weeks after your preliminary admission offer in order to secure a space in the program. The documents required to start the evaluation of your application must be uploaded at the time of application and must be received by the application deadline. As such, applicants are encouraged to apply early and make arrangements to ensure all supporting documents will be submitted by March 15, 2016.
