Enjoy fine arts courses that strengthen your understanding of creative processes

The Fine Arts Diploma program is a flexible, interdisciplinary credit program and designed for active people who are balancing personal, professional and community responsibilities. It allows you to pursue your interest in the fine arts through university-level study on a part- or full-time basis.

Program format

In this fine arts program, day and evening lecture courses are offered through the Faculty of Fine Arts and the dynamic University of Victoria departments of Visual Arts, Writing, History in Art, Theatre and Music in cooperation with the Division of Continuing Studies.

With assistance from your fine arts program adviser, you design your own unique program of study to suit your interests and goals. Choose from a wide range of fine arts courses, or pursue a specialized focus of study such as (but not limited to):

  • The ideas and issues of the fine arts
  • The visual, musical and dramatic arts of Canada
  • The art and architecture of a particular period, culture or geographic region
  • Traditional or contemporary arts
  • Popular culture and new media

Admission and completion requirements

You must be admissible to the University of Victoria and have a demonstrated interest in the fine arts.

You may wish to pursue this program concurrently with an undergraduate degree. Credits from the Fine Arts Diploma program may serve as elective credits in your degree, with the permission of your Academic Advisor. You should have a minimum of third year standing to be eligible.

To earn the diploma you are required to complete 15 units of academic credit.
