When you enroll in a Continuing Studies online course, you’ll be studying the same course topics and materials as on-campus students but you’ll have the flexibility to organize your coursework around your other commitments and obligations.
When you register for an online course, you’ll receive a communiqué from Continuing Studies with the web address or “URL” to login to your course website and directions about where to buy your course study guide and/or course pack and other instructional materials.
Your instructor’s notes and directions on the course website or in the printed course pack will guide you through the course themes and topics, assignments and learning activities. The course pack includes required reading for the course. If you need library materials or assistance with researching a topic, you can get help from our Distance Education librarian.
If you need help accessing your course website or interacting with your instructor (or classmates) online, you can contact the Onlinehelp Desk for technical assistance.
The course instructor creates and facilitates discussion topics and other online activities. Your instructor will provide you with guidance, instruction and encouragement as you work through the course.
Online interactions are usually a large part of the course experience. Students participate in ongoing discussions by posting ideas and receiving feedback from the instructor and classmates. Debates, case studies and role plays are some of the learning activities you may take part in.
Although you will set your own personal schedule for independent study, to be successful, you will need to make a time commitment of between 8 and 12 study hours a week depending upon the course, and meet all the assignment timelines. Most Continuing Studies courses are 12 weeks in length.
