Courses can be taken in any order that is suitable for a student.
Please see our current distance or on-site offering sections for availability.
Distance education courses are offered in each of the following terms: September to December, January to April, and April to June. If you prefer classroom instruction, core courses will be offered on campus in an immersion format, during July and August. Workshops are offered year-round typically Friday: 6:15- 9:15 pm, Saturday and Sunday: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (3 sessions) except during the summer, when workshops are available on weekdays. All courses are offered subject to minimum enrolment.
Typically, distance education students purchase a course pack of readings and sometimes a textbook from the UVic Bookstore and they participate in asynchronous (students do not need to be online at any particular time to participate) discussions with their colleagues in the course and the instructor using a learning management system called Moodle- connection to the internet is all that is required to access Moodle and students will be sent a url and start up information. Students typically spend 8-10 hours each week on their coursework (course readings, assignments, online discussion) but they are not required to be online each day- usually two or three times a week is adequate.
Workshops fees normally cover the cost of course materials and students may be asked to do readings and/or engage with other workshop-related activities on the days immediately surrounding the workshop.
Library reference materials at UVic are available via Infoline, the telephone library service.
