Applications will be accepted beginning in Fall 2012. In the meantime, if you have questions, or wish to let us know that you’re interested in applying, please contact us at: crmcoord@uvic.ca

Description

This program strengthens your capacity for management and leadership within museum and heritage contexts by focusing on conceptual and practical strategies for approaching challenges in the workplace and community with confidence and creativity.

This three-course diploma, which will be introduced in Summer 2013, will be available to professionals and those interested in pursuing a career or involvement in cultural heritage.

Students who have completed the Graduate Professional Certificate in Cultural Heritage Studies can gain further skills in management and leadership by applying to move on to the Diploma program.

Format

It is designed to be completed on a part-time basis, one course per term, to enable you to balance your studies with your personal and professional commitments. Courses are offered in an accessible online format. An engaging interactive learning environment rich in learning resources brings the courses alive. Courses provide opportunities to apply your learning to your workplace and community context.

You are able to complete the diploma requirements in two to three terms of study. You begin by taking the two core courses, one course per term, over two terms. You then select an elective course from available options, and complete it in your third term.

Entrance Requirements

You may proceed on to the Graduate Professional Diploma after completing the Graduate Professional Certificate in Cultural Heritage Studies.

You may also apply to the Graduate Diploma without completing the Graduate Professional Certificate in Cultural Heritage Studies if you have completed the University of Victoria’s Diploma in Cultural Resource Management or Professional Specialization Certificate in Heritage Conservation Planning. See Participation Options for more information. However, CH 560 Cultural Heritage Stewardship and Sustainability is a prerequisite course to Graduate Professional Diploma coursework for anyone applying to the program having not first completed the Graduate Professional Certificate in Cultural Heritage Studies.

Important Note: Admissability directly to the Graduate Diploma in Cultural Heritage Management for individuals who have completed graduate degrees elsewhere in museum studies or heritage conservation is under consideration, subject to Senate Approval in February 2012. Admission would also require completion of CH 560 as a prerequisite course.

Visit Participation Options for more information on choosing the admission option best suited to you.

If you have completed the Diploma in Cultural Resource Management or the Professional Specialization Certificate in Heritage Conservation Planning, you will be asked to assemble the following materials, and submit them, either online or by mail, to Graduate Admissions and Records:
