Cultural Heritage Professionals
The programs are designed for energetic, self-directed early to mid-career professionals working or involved with cultural heritage in such diverse settings as museums, cultural and interpretive centres, art galleries, historic sites, parks and landscapes, community planning and urban revitalization initiatives across Canada and around the world.
Once you have completed the GPC and/or GPD, you may be able to utilize some of the credits toward a graduate degree at the University of Victoria, with the permission of the academic unit.

Laddering the GPC and GPD to a graduate degree
Once you have completed your GPC and/or GPD, you may also be able to utilize some of the credits toward a graduate degree at the University of Victoria. To explore this option, you would need permission of the you should contact the unit directly and discuss how your interests and your coursework in cultural heritage studies dovetail with Master’s or PhD program requirements.

Graduate Students in Related Programs
The programs are also designed to enable graduate students dedicated to and involved with cultural heritage who are currently or planning to be engaged in related Master’s and PhD studies at UVic to undertake concurrent degree/certificate programs in which selected certificate courses are transferrable to the degree with the approval of the academic unit. You will learn with people from the many diverse disciplines that comprise cultural heritage study and practice. Concurrent degree/certificate students can receive both a graduate degree and a graduate professional certificate upon completion of program requirements.

Concurrent graduate degree and graduate professional certificate studies
You can earn both a graduate degree and the graduate certificate by undertaking concurrent degree and certificate programs. This approach enables you to use some of the credits earned in the certificate toward your degree with the permission of the academic unit, with the proviso that no more that 50% of graduate degree units may be obtained through concurrent graduate certificate or diploma coursework. The following table notes shared course credits at the master’s level that have been endorsed by UVic academic units.

Cultural Resource Management Program Participants and Graduates
The graduate certificate and diploma programs allow Cultural Resource Management Diploma and Professional Specialization Certificate in Heritage Conservation Planning students and graduates to complete further study in the field of cultural heritage, provided you fulfill the admission requirements established by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and are admitted to the program.

If you have completed UVic’s Diploma in Cultural Resource Management or the Professional Specialization Certificate in Heritage Conservation Planning in the past six years, you may apply to be admitted directly to the Graduate Professional Diploma in Cultural Heritage Management which begins in 2013. You must be admissible to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and admitted to the program. You must complete CH 560 Cultural Heritage Stewardship and Sustainability as a prerequisite your GPD coursework. If your studies in the Cultural Resource Management programs are only partially complete, you can make the transition to the graduate programs by transferring some of the credits earned in undergraduate studies.
