A full refund will be issued for individual courses if you withdraw from a course prior to the start date of the course. A course refund, minus a CAD$40 administration fee, will only be provided within six calendar days after the course start date for online and part-time courses. A request to withdraw from a course must be submitted in writing to the Business, Management and Technology office.
The Division of Continuing Studies reserves the right to cancel/reschedule courses or other offerings without notice, and to establish special regulations for admission to non-degree programs or courses.
If a course or offering is cancelled or rescheduled, the liability of the Division of Continuing Studies is limited to a full refund of the course fee, or, if desired, transfer to another offering.
Please be advised that the University of Victoria charges a CAD$30 graduation fee regardless of whether students attend the convocation ceremony. The graduation application forms are available here.
It is expected that students in the certificate and diploma programs will adhere to the University of Victoria’s academic regulations regarding standards of academic integrity. Failure to meet the accepted standards of academic integrity is a serious offense. All allegations of plagiarism and cheating will be forwarded by the course instructor to a program coordinator who will deal with each case according to the University’s academic regulations.
To avoid accusations of plagiarism (i.e. copying another person's work), all direct quotations and borrowed ideas used in an assignment must be properly acknowledged.
If you have any questions about appropriate ways to acknowledge other people's work, contact your instructor. Being unaware of proper referencing techniques will not be accepted as an excuse for plagiarism.
If a student wishes clarification or is dissatisfied with a grade for an assignment or a course, the student should first discuss this with the course instructor. Before a student considers a formal review of a final grade, he/she should make every reasonable effort to discuss the assigned grade with the instructor.
If such discussion fails to resolve the concern or where more challenging circumstances exist, the student should contact the Program Director.
Reviews of final grades shall be processed as follows:
Wherever possible, every effort will be made to complete the review within 21 days of receipt of the application for review.
The relevant Program Director will manage the appeal process, which may include discussion with the course instructor, a review by an external content specialist in the topic of the course, and a review of all written work assigned in the course or, in the case of online work, a review of student contributions to online course discussions.
The grade determined by means of a review will be recorded as the final official grade, regardless of whether it is the same as, or higher or lower than, the original grade.
The decision of the Program Director is considered final, subject to an appeal to the Dean of Continuing Studies.
