Course Registration
The Aboriginal Language Revitalization Program welcomes your application to the Certificate Program and/or to register in individual courses. Applications to the program are accepted year-round.
Please note that if you'd like to participate in individual courses but do not wish to take the certificate program, you can apply to the University as an Exploratory student to get academic credit for single courses, or register as a non-credit participant. Please see Registration Options below for further information.
To participate in the certificate program for University credit, you must complete both a Program Application form and an Application for Admission to the University of Victoria.

As the certificate is a credit program, you must also apply for admission to the University of Victoria if you have never taken courses for credit at UVic.
If you have already taken credit courses at the University please complete the Undergraduate Re-registration Application form at the time you complete the CALR application form described above.
To apply for admission, you must complete a University of Victoria Undergraduate Application.
You have two options for completing this form:
Please note when completing the form that you are applying to the Faculty of Humanities for the Certificate Program in Aboriginal Language Revitalization. If you wish to start with the LING187 course in March, you should apply for January 2010; if you wish to start with the Summer Institutes, you should apply for May 2010. You will be classified as an off-campus student taking courses through the Division of Continuing Studies. A VISA or Mastercard number will be required for your application fee, or you can send a cheque in the appropriate amount. Please note that a purchase requisition cannot be used for admission application fees.
Please note that the University welcomes applications from Aboriginal peoples of Canada, including those of First Nations, Métis and Inuit ancestry (including Non-Status Aboriginal). If you do not qualify under the other categories of admission your application will be considered under the Special Access Category.
NOTE: Your application will not be processed until your admission fee is received. Please submit your Application for Admission at the same time that you submit your application to the program.
If applicable, you are asked to arrange to send two sealed copies of official transcripts for all post-secondary studies that you have completed at other academic institutions directly to the University of Victoria at the address provided on the Application for Admission.
If you have already taken credit courses at the University, you do not need to apply again. Instead, please complete an Undergraduate Re-registration Application form at the time you complete your Program Application form (Step 1). We welcome international participants in the program and courses. If you are an international student, please refer to the University’s International Student website for information on undergraduate admissions. Special processes for application, visa authorization, and international tuition fees apply.
You can participate in courses as part of the Certificate Program or on an individual basis either for university credit or on a non-credit basis. Participation options are described below.
To register in one or more courses, please complete and submit the CALR course registration form and submit the appropriate fees or authorization to invoice your sponsor (eg. First Nation or Band Council). We encourage you to register as far in advance of the course start date as possible, but late registrations will be accepted, space permitting.

In addition to registering for credit as part of the Certificate Program, you may choose to participate under one of the following categories :
Participants who wish to take individual credit courses for personal or professional interest, and will be at least 21 years of age prior to the first day of classes, may apply for admission to Exploratory Studies. Exploratory Studies students may take up to 3 units of courses per term, normally to a maximum of 12 units attempted overall, and will be classified as “non-degree” participants. You have the option to apply a limited number of banked credit units to a specific program should you apply at a later date. You can transfer UVic course credits to undergraduate or graduate programs at other universities and colleges, as long as you have the permission of your home institution and department.
If you wish to take courses for transfer credit, you must apply for admission to UVic as a "Visiting Student. (see Step 2. University of Victoria Application for Admission above) and submit a "Letter of Permission" from your home institution. and You will be required to pay the admission application fee but you are not required to submit transcripts. This allows you to register as a credit student on a course-by-course basis.
You can participate in CALR elective courses for credit toward your undergraduate or graduate degree by completing the CALR course registration form. You should check with your Department to ensure that you are able to include the courses within your program.
If you are interested in participating in a course but do not wish to earn academic credit, simply complete the course registration form and payment. As a non-credit participant you are asked to complete all course requirements and to participate fully in course activities. A certificate of completion is provided upon completion of coursework.
