PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Certificate in Financial Planning (CFP)

Qualifying and Certificate Programs

Description

The University of Victoria offers a series of Financial Planning courses which will appeal to individuals wanting to increase their understanding of financial products and the financial planning process, as well as to those professionals wishing to acquire the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation from the Financial Planners Standards Council.

The first four Financial Planning courses along with the CIFP Program and Evaluation qualify students to challenge the CFP examination administered by the Financial Planners Standard Council (FPSC). The mandatory Program Review and Evaluation goes over materials covered in the previous four courses and culminates in a four-hour proctored exam (this course is offered only through CIFP and students must contact them to register).

Students can then take an additional three courses to qualify for a Certificate in Financial Planning from the University of Victoria.  The Certificate in Financial Planning is intended to serve the needs of students who wish to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of financial planning and enhance their ability to perform more effectively in professional environments.

Today’s employers recognize and value the broader perspectives provided by university programs that combine the financial planning industry perspective with management and professional development.  Acquiring an understanding of financial planning management concepts and practices provides graduates with a competitive advantage when it comes to pursuing employment opportunities.
