Web Design and Management I

CBIS Technology and Analysis Elective, by Distance

Program Options: CBIS TRU

This course will provide you with the technical skills and conceptual understanding to create and manage professional websites. Web Design and Management I complements the core of the CBIS program by providing a rationale for the use of the Web as an effective tool to meet business needs.

You will learn the basics, such as hypertext markup language (HTML), including creating links, adding graphics and applying cascading style sheets to web pages.

You will advance to learn more about navigational graphics and image maps, incorporating different graphic formats and video and/or sound into Web pages. You will also gain an understanding of complex issues such as site management and use of online forms. Many of these skills will be developed through hands-on exercises.

Prerequisite: Computing Concepts or equivalent experience

Objective

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

• understand Web site development issues: needs assessment, goal setting and site promotion
• analyze and apply Web site and interface design principles
• analyze interactive Web sites and how they are built
• identify Web site management issues that relate to Web servers
• develop a management strategy to effectively deal with updates, maintenance, backup and security of Web sites
• understand the functionality of common Web tools and use those tools manage and update a site
• develop a strategy for selecting appropriate Web tools
• develop and apply strategies for solving cross-browser and cross-platform incompatibilities
• understand and write HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) and be aware of emerging standards such as (X)HTML
• create Web sites that incorporate cascading style sheets, frames, tables, multimedia components, JavaScript and forms

Format

By Distance
