Training and Development

Competitive organizations in today’s rapidly changing world are learning organizations. A key requirement for their success is an effective training and development program that helps employees to develop their personal and organizational knowledge, skills and performance. Learning activities and assignments will provide knowledge and skill development and address participants’ interests. As well, participants will be provided with experience in using online tools for staying current and connected to the wider community of peers, information, and networks relevant to training and development.

EDCA110- Training and Development can also be taken as an elective in the Computer Based Information Systems (CBIS) program.

Objective

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

Describe the role of training and development in an organization
Identify trends that are impacting the evolution of training and development practices
Design and conduct a training needs assessment
Design a training resource using instructional design and adult education principles
Explain the various forms of e-learning and social networking
Describe a variety of strategies for facilitating face-to-face training
Describe evaluation strategies for diverse training and development programs
Analyze your existing training program in relation to current trends, issues and practices in workplace training
Explain the importance of learning theories as a basis for designing training
Explain the steps in a systematic instructional design process
Design support for the transfer of learning
Describe strategies for aligning training with an organization’s business goals
Develop a proposal / business case for a training and development initiative
Describe strategies for positioning training as an organizational priority
