Special Topics in Aboriginal Language Revitalization: From Idea to Project

LING 187 (1.5 units)

This practical course will help you think about the stages and steps involved in your language revitalization project, from gaining community support and developing grant proposals, to building meaningful, successful and sustainable projects.

Instructors

Xway'Waat (Deanna Daniels) and Suzanne Gessner work for the First Peoples' Heritage, Language and Culture Council. The mandate of the First Peoples' Council is to assist B.C. First Nations in their efforts to revitalize their languages, arts and cultures. During the past 19 years, the First Peoples' Council has successfully distributed over $20 million to British Columbia’s Aboriginal communities for language, arts and culture projects. The instructors have extensive experience in assisting B.C. First Nations communities in their language revitalization efforts.
