Management Accounting

CBA/DBA Course

• Program Options: CBA DBA

This course is an introduction to the fundamental concepts of management accounting. It complements concepts covered in Financial Accounting by focusing on the accounting functions internal to the organization. Management Accounting is concerned with the data and techniques used in the decision making process. This includes the analysis and accounting for costs, exposure to cost behaviour (cost-volume-profit), the contribution approach, variance analysis, differential cash flows, and budgeting. The course will also discuss the most recent developments such as activity-based costing.

Recommended Prerequisite: Financial Accounting, BMBA140

Format

Please Note:  This course is offered in multiple formats, but not every format will be offered each term. 

On Campus

The course will be 13 weeks in duration and consists of one three-hour class per week. Classes are customarily held on campus on weekdays from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. This schedule may vary, depending on class format and location.

By Distance

Students login to the course and communicate with the instructor and fellow students via the course management system Moodle. For further information about Moodle, visit the Moodle Startup Kit at http://distance.uvic.ca/onlinehelp/tutorials/moodle/. All assignments and course activities will be submitted electronically to the course instructor.

Blended Distance/On Campus

This course may be held in a blended (distance and on-campus) environment. Distance students will be joining the on-campus class via Elluminate Live software and are required to be online during scheduled class times.

Intensive course

Students may also take this course in a one week intensive on-campus format to reduce the completion time of this course.
