Making Change - Developing Meaningful Intercultural Programming

IET 420 (1.5 units)

Where to start?  What approaches to use?  How best to enlist allies and supporters? Are we on the right track?  How do we know? These are all important considerations in moving from ideals to change - all considerations that community organizations and government programmers assess on a regular basis.  Looking at the intersection of inclusion issues and programming considerations in a contemporary setting, this course explores the practical issues and challenges of moving from wanting to affect change to making it happen through examining different methods for reaching the goals of inclusion and participation.  Making the connections between contemporary theory and practice through case studies and role play, students will gain practical knowledge and skills to
work effectively in a variety of organizations.

Instructor:

Jean McRae, has been working in the area of immigrants services and intercultural and anti racism education for almost thirty years. She has worked in Canada and Central America, and has been involved in many change initiatives in the field. Jean is Executive Director of the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria and has a BA in Language and Linguistics, a Professional Education Certification and an MBA in Leadership. She serves on provincial and national boards and committees, which address programming and policy issues affecting the lives of immigrants and refugees.
