Later Mediterranean Religions

... at Mary Winspear Centre

No matter which of the major religions we look at today, they all have their roots in antiquity. In this second of three courses on the origins of some of these religions in the Mediterranean region, we will investigate the mythology, mystery and state religions of Greek, Hellenistic and Roman times.
We will also try to understand how these earlier religions and belief systems, including those from the ancient Near East, went on to become the antecedents of the major Western religions – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, all of which originated in this region.  Participation in the first of the three courses, Early Mediterranean Religions, is not essential to understanding this current course.
