This course focuses on personnel and human resource management in a Canadian setting. Topics include: planning staff recruitment within a business, job design, recruitment and selection, performance appraisal, employee compensation and benefits, staff development and training, health and safety issues, employee rights, and labour relations.
Required textbook: Essentials of Managing Human Resources (4th Cdn Ed) by Stewart and Belcourt
Please Note: This course is offered in multiple formats, but not every format will be offered each term.
On Campus
The course is normally 13 weeks in duration and consists of one three-hour class per week. Classes are customarily held on campus on weekdays from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. This schedule may vary, depending on class format and location.
Intensive course
Students may also take a one week intensive on-campus course to reduce the completion time of this course.
In order to perform maintenance on the UVic servers, there will be intermittent outages this Saturday, May 19 from 6:00-8:00 am (Pacific Time). You may not be able to log in to your courses during this period.
