Facilitating Adult Learning

CACE 1.0 required course

Offered online and face-to-face at UVic

Explore the complexity of the teaching/learning process in the education of adults and identify and define the assumptions, values and beliefs which underlie your decisions as a facilitator. Analyze the application and implications of educational principles in the design, delivery and evaluation of adult learning.

EDCA300- Facilitating Adult Learning can also be taken as an elective in the Computer Based Information Systems (CBIS) program.

Objective

After this course students should be able to:

• Evaluate and integrate key philosophies, theories and concepts in the development and facilitation of adult learning;
• Draw on adult learning theory, knowledge of learners' cultures, and other theoretical frameworks to set a climate and create an environment conducive to learning;
• Facilitate and evaluate an adult learning process;
• Reflect critically on your own practice and facilitate critical reflection in your learners;
• Exploit the potential learning from experience in facilitating adult learning;
• Demonstrate effective communication skills;
• Make appropriate decisions regarding the facilitation of adult learning based on your knowledge of issues related to distributed learning;
• Describe and adhere to ethical principles in facilitating adult learning.
