COURSE INFORMATION

English Work Experience Program (EWEP)

The English Work Experience Program (EWEP) is an optional addition to the 12-Week Program. It offers an excellent opportunity for students to develop their English skills in a challenging professional environment.  Students who choose the EWEP option do 12 weeks of intensive English classes + a 4-6 week internship, for a total, combined program length of 16-18 weeks.

Program Features:

Job-preparation workshops during the ELC's 12-Week Intensive Program (ELPI) 

4 to 6-week work term (120-240 professional hours) after ELPI

Letter of Recommendation from your Employer and the Program Coordinator

Certificate of Participation

Homestay or UVic Dormitory accommodation

Objective

This program is an optional addition to the 12-week intensive program, which allows students to put their English skills into practise by completing a 4 to 6-week professional work term in the community  after the 12-Week Program. 

 

Format

During the 12-Week Program

To prepare for a successful work experience in Canada, participants complete a series of workshops with an ELC teacher, including:

• Skills & Experience Assessment
• Resume and Cover Letter Writing
• Interview Skills
• Canadian Culture in the Workplace
• WorldHost: Customer Service Certification

During the 4-6 Week Work Term

Students participate in the daily activities of a Canadian organization and gain excellent experience to add to their resumes.  Our program offers positions in fields such as:

• Tourism & Hospitality
• Event Coordination
• Marketing and Communications
• Office Administration

 

Requisites

• Successful completion of the 12-Week Program (ELPI) prior to the work term (Upper Intermediate class level)
• A valid student visa or work permit for the duration of the work term. Students are encouraged to obtain a work permit before entering Canada, but this process can also be started here
