Adventures in North and West Africa

Join this virtual trip to two former French colonies in North and West Africa that have a rich and long history predating colonialism. In Morocco, we will explore the traditional villages of the Western Atlas, the historical cities of Marrakesh, Meknes and Fès (the world's most intact medieval Arab city), hike through canyons, dunes and mountains and go on a desert trek with a Berber guide. In Mali, where the legendary Timbuktu is located, the presenter will report on a volunteer experience teaching girls in one of the poorest areas of Bamako, the capital. We’ll also visit two UNESCO heritage sites, the city of Djenne with its unique mosque (the largest mud-built structure in the world), and the Dogon country.

This session will appeal to people who are thinking of travelling to North or West Africa or who enjoy travelling vicariously and are interested in learning more about this region, its people, cultures and natural history.
